Webinar Overview:

Every hospital should have a safe injection practices policy and staff should be trained! Hospitals should be aware of the CDC requirements including that anesthesia should use single dose Propofol on only one patient and masks should be worn when inserting an epidural or spinal for pain relief in the OB area. Does your hospital clean glucometers between each patient?

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has received a $50 million dollar grant to enforce infection control standards. Both CMS and the Joint Commission have a separate chapter on infection control. The standards require hospitals to monitor infection control issues. This area is being hit hard in the survey process.

Injected medicines are common in healthcare today. Injection safety or safe injection practices are measures taken to perform injections in an optimally safe manner for patients. Many hospitals and other facilities have just taken for granted that this was being performed appropriately but recent studies show this to be untrue.

This program is a must attend especially for all hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. This program will discuss all the cases where patients have been injured. It will cover the standards to follow including the CDC’s recommended practices. CMS has also issued a memo on safe injection practices. All hospitals and ASCs should have a policy on safe injection practices. It should include single and multi-dose vials and include the CDC recommendations.

The physicians and anesthesiologist involved in the Nevada cases have faced loss of licensure, malpractice litigation, survey visits by CMS, and criminal charges because of failing to follow safe injection practices!
